It is no secret that I hated Lego Marvel Superheroes 2. I
personally found it a slog to go through, the DLC was broken, the over world
wasn’t fun to travel through, the levels got shorter as I went through, and
even at the 100% mark, I never really felt satisfied with the experience. I got
so mad at the experience that I was genuinely considering not getting another
one, and became extremely cynical towards DC Super villains. Against my better
judgement, I picked up DC Super villains thinking that, at the very least, it
would be a good review for this week, seeing as most of, if not all of next
month’s content is going to be focused on DC. Was I wrong to be so overly
cautious? In a word: No. It’s times like this when I’m glad I don’t do number
scores or submit reviews to Metacritic and the like, because I’d probably piss
someone off at WB for this, not that it matters, I don’t get review copies, and
any ad space they may get here is through Google, not me.

Operation M.A.Y.V.E.L Phase 1 (Maybe? Kinda?); Lego Marvel Superheroes 2: TT, we need to talk
I have a love-hate relationship with the Lego games. Two of my favorite games when growing up was Lego Star Wars Complete Saga, and Lego Batman 1, and motion sickness inducing camera aside, I do enjoy BIONICLE Heroes (though that's for another time). While simplistic, the games are still entertaining. However, things did change during the last generation of consoles. While it is a case by case situation, some of the changes made to the game since Lego Batman 2 turned me off of the games, and when I did try them again with Lego Dimensions, the flaws of the engine started to become really apparent to me. I got this game a few weeks ago as, encase it wasn't obvious, I've been on a marvel binge, and the game was heavily discounted. So I figured why not, and I'd even get the DLC because the two together was still cheaper than the normal retail price... See if you can guess where I'm going with this based on the title alone.

Mini Mega Man Marathon March Mania; Mega Man 4: What is all this... new stuff?
And so today, we bid farewell to the blue bomber for now. We shall return another day, but for now, let's finish this marathon with Mega Man 4.

Mini Mega Man Marathon March Mania; Mega Man 3: "We will show you our peaceful ways, with a giant heavily armed robot!"
With the success of Mega Man 2, Capcom saw that they had a successful franchise on their hand, and would start to suck it dry. Again, if I was doing all of these, I'd drive myself insane from all the Mega Man games. It's time though to make the jump to Mega Man 3 and see the new Mega Man Level Pack!

Mini Mega Man Marathon March Mania; Mega Man 2: The Brentalfloss quoting is extremely tempting...
And the reason it is tempting is because of his "What if 'x' had lyrics" series was some of the first exposure I ever had to Mega Man (aside from the Smash 4 announcement trailer). I knew of him, but not enough to start playing the series. Now, why is this so late? Aside from the "I thought it was Monday" that I posted to Twitter, the other reasons were a project I was working on over the long weekend needing major reworking (Yes its on that trailer. Since when was Mediaholics ever punctual when it comes to these sorts of things?) and personal commitments taking up today. This started writing as soon as I finished dinner. We're going back to old school Mediaholics writing, where I had no idea I could schedule these!

Mini Mega Man Marathon March Mania; Mega Man 1 (NES): Yes, really, that's what we're calling this.
The blame for this name can be sent to @Keybug55 on Twitter.
Mega Man, the blue bomber, Jump and Shoot man, an icon that has gone through many names, many genres, and an insane amount of games (See here for why: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mega_Man_video_games ). If I was to review all of them in a row, I'd be here for a few years reviewing Mega Man games. You don't want that do you? I know I don't want to be doing that. So, let's do them in bursts. Such as now, where I'll be looking at the first four Mega Man games that came out on the NES, cause those versions are the ones people actually care about and the version ported to oblivion (some more than others). Starting with Mega Man 1. Welcome to 200x kids.

Yes, this did need both Bad Box Art Mega Men. One worse than the other. |

Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero: Time to dance
Time to do a follow up to the first impressions post, which you can find here: http://mediaholicreviews.blogspot.com.au/2016/12/opening-impressions-shantae-12-genie.html . This isn't going to be too much longer, mainly because it turned out I was actually further into the game then I thought I was. I haven't gone back yet to do a New game plus run yet, as unlike Fire Emblem fates, I'm letting it simmer a bit before going back to it. So, care to dance through the danger?

Opening Impressions: Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero
Did this literally just come out? Yes. Did I back it on Kickstarter? No. Why am I doing this now? Because I haven't had the time to do the impressions I promised last week, going to do a Christmas review on Sunday, and was playing this on my Vita on the train ride to and from work today, so I have it on the mind. Lets do this!

LEGO Dimensions: Who be th' bad guy in 'tis again?
If ye don't like th' scurvy pirate shout, thar be a version 'o 'tis review in normal English here: http://mediaholicreviews.blogspot.com/2016/09/lego-dimensions-who-is-bad-guy-in-this.html
'tis was also a direct copy paste from 'tis site here: http://postlikeapirate.com/ due to 'tis bein' more 'o a gag, so excuse any weird spellin' from th' tavern. I did give a go' 'n catch all 'o them. Now onto th' review savvy.
No seriously, who? thar be someone tryin' to reconstruct th' multiverses 'n rebuild them in his own image, but we break a lot 'o thin's in these games, th' golden rule be "If it's made 'o LEGO, it can be destroyed" after all. Though then again, 'tis be th' opposite extreme to th' LEGO movie, which was all 'bout followin' instructions to th' letter 'n killin' imagination...

LEGO Dimensions: Who is the bad guy in this again?
Very quick, before going on as this is before the joke of the title, while late, in the spirit of Talk like a Pirate Day, there is a version of this review in Pirate that you can see here: http://mediaholicreviews.blogspot.com/2016/09/lego-dimensions-who-be-th-bad-guy-in.html
No seriously, who? There is someone trying to reconstruct the multiverses and rebuild them in his own image, but we break a lot of things in these games, the golden rule is "If it’s made of LEGO, it can be destroyed" after all. Though then again, this is the opposite extreme to the LEGO movie, which was all about following instructions to the letter and killing imagination...

F%&@ this game, F%&@ this game, F%&@ this game, F%&@ this game, F%&@ this game
Decided to change the order, Sky Reign is Wednesday.
Ugh... this game. This abomination. This atrocity. This disgrace. What better way to celebrate the 15th anniversary of a franchise then to almost single handily kill it? Granted, it wasn't alone, Genesis and Secret Rings helped. This game, is infamous in how bad, how broken, how glitchy it is. This game, above all others, is the reason the franchise has the reputation it does. This was one of the first games I got for my 360, due to a sale EB was doing, and that my only other option was a 16-bit collection where the games I'd want to play, I already had for the DS. I should note, I have not played the newest contender to this throne, I don't have the game, but in the spirit of No Man's Sky's release, let’s go back, to 2006, to a game that no longer had the protection of the time. When DLC was starting to become a thing, but not patches, to a game that had the franchise creator leave the company. If you thought Assassins Creed Unity and No Man's Sky was bad, well, I envy you, because dear, naive reader, you haven't seen anything yet. Welcome, to "SONIC the Hedgehog", or to go by its more common name, Sonic '06.

Freedom Planet: "What's this? AN INDIE GAME REVIEW?!"
Yes, it's true, contrary to what I've reviewed, I do play other games, and I play indie games. Granted not as much as I'd like for indies, but I am working on it. I was first introduced to this game via an event called SAGE, the Sonic Armature Games Expo back in 2012, where this game was first shown off, and I had a blast playing it. It was a great demo and is one of the kickstarter projects I wish I had the money at the time to endorse. However, it was released to the world recently, and even got a WiiU Port (Which is the version I used for this review, however I do have experience with the PC version, and will be getting said PC version to let's play soon).

Batman: Arkham City: Because clearly the villains need a city and not an island
So what to do with two prisons ruined because of the Joker? You build a wall around a portion of the city and shove all the criminals into there. I can't imagine how much of a brilliant plan that is. Well, let's see how badly Batman comes to wreck this "ingenious plan" with Batman Arkham City.

Batman: Arkham Asylum: I swear there will be no bat gadget jokes in this
This was a long time coming. I was actually planning on doing this during my absence for the Comedy Festival, where I'd also cover Arkham Origins... that never happened. I wanted to do it before Arkham Knight, didn't happen. Then I tried to fit it in before the PC version re release... that didn't happen. So now consider this as the lead up for when WB Games get the PC version up to an actual standard deserving of its price tag. It's time for us to put on the cape and cowl and enter the Madhouse. Welcome, to Arkham Asylum.

Four people talking about E3 2015
EDIT: Version 2.0 of the video because for some reason I didn't catch the bad audio sync.
So what did we think of E3 2015?
Special thanks to CJ, Jeremy and Marissa for joining me on this.
Side note: Really excited for the new Need for Speed as I loved messing around in Need for Speed Underground 2 as a kid. My inner child is excited for Transformers Devastation, even though its not the Unicron Trillogy. And the other inner child in me wants a Yu-gi-oh game for the Holo Lense (or Magic the Gathering if it has a yu-gi-oh theme to it).

Square Enix E3 2015
- Can't wait to show you more seems to be a trend here
- Just Cause 3: I haven't had any interest in Just cause before, and while I may give this one a shot, its not a priority for me. Though the trailer that is basically the presentation is quite boring
- Nier: Nothing to say, It looks nice and it has some well known staff working on it
- Rise of the Tomb Raider: I've already said what I had to say
- Lara Croft Go: would like to see it in action before I form opinions
- Heavensward Final Fantasy XIV: Hard to talk about expansions without experience of the games themselves
- Life is Strange: Ok?
- Dragon Quest Heroes The World Tree's woe and the Blight Below: Dragon Quest IX themed?
- Final Fantasy VII remake: Said what I needed to say, though I don't see the logic behind putting the original and the remake on PS4
- Kingdom Hearts Unchained: It looks nice for an iOS and Android game
- World of Final Fantasy: I'll get to it
- Hitman: I've said what I had to say already
- Hitman Sniper: ?
- Triad Wars: Not meaning for this to be racist, but Japan GTA?
- Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness: It looks intresting, though I'm more curious about the series itself
- Deus Ex Mankind Divided: Looks interesting, though I get the feeling I should play at least the last game before I play this one
- Final Fantasy Portal App:Just a name dump
- Project SETSUNA: The concept art looks nice
And with that. I'm done with the press conferences, but I'm not done with E3 yet. I'll be back on Friday for a break from E3 with The Ani... what's that at my door?
Nintendo E3 2015
- I don't care what people say, the muppet intro is hilarious
- Starfox Zero: It looks like a lot of fun, with the transforming vehicles
- Skylanders Superchargers: It's skylanders, but amiibo fans have two more to get
- Fire Emblem Fates: It's IF
- Shin Megami Tensai X Fire Emblem: Still looks great
- Xenoblade Chronicles X: Something that I'm becoming more and more interested in everytime I see it in action, it looks really good
- Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer: It looks charming, but nothing else aside from that
- Animal Crossing amiibo Festival: Animal Crossing Mario Party?
- Yoshi's Woolly World: It's so adorable
- Yo-Kai Watch: Nothing has caught my attention with it yet
- Mario and Luigi Paper Jam: Its a mash up of the two Mario RPG formulas that has a giant Mario Tank made of paper fighting giant paper Goomba tanks. Enough said
- Mario Tennis Ultra Smash: Its Mario Tennis
- Super Mario Maker amiibo support: Because why not have wii fit trainer go through Mario levels?
Tuesday, 16 June 2015
Sony E3 2015
Quick note, who was in charge of the vision mixer, when there's something on the screen, PEOPLE WATCHING THE STREAMS WANT TO FOCUS ON THE SCREEN, NOT EVERYTHING ELSE
- The Last Guardian: Looks ok, not a fan of how the feathers on the "griffon" are being rendered, but apart from that, it looks good
- Horizon Zero Dawn: It looks really fun to play and the world just looks gorgeous
- Hitman: Not much to say as it was a CGI trailer
- Street Fighter 5: It looks nice, but its still just another street fighter
- No Man's Sky: Pretty much what I said last year. I am considering picking it up though when I get a PS4
- Dreams: It looks nice, but its something that I can't really describe. I'm probably not going to pick it up because I'm not that kind of artist though. I could see people using it to make movies though for YouTube.
- Firewatch: I've got nothing
- Destiny The Taken King: It's a little hard to talk about an expansion to a game I've never played
- Assassins Creed Syndicate: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake: O.O Getting!
- Ronin: Eh
- EITR: Looks interesting
- Mother Russia Bleeds: That's a gameplay style I haven't seen in a while
- Crossing Souls: Meh
- Shenmue 3: Nothing to say, its a kickstarter
- Batman Arkham Knight: First person section?
- Project Morpheus: Something I need to test for myself before I form an opinion
- Playstation.Vue: Don't care
- Call of Duty: Black Ops III. I was so close to realizing my dream :( Maybe next year
- Disney Infinity 3.0: Still wanting to see fan movies people will make with these
- Star Wars Battlefront: I'll get to it later
- Uncharted 4: A thief's End: Looks like fun
